Northfield Center — Frank Washumick cannot get out into the world very much anymore, but a recent gift will bring the world to him.
The 81-year-old, terminally ill Army veteran received a new laptop computer July 17 from the California-based Dream Foundation. According to the foundation’s Web site, it is a “wish-granting organization for adults with life-limiting illness.”
Washumick described it as a “happy day.”
Brad Garrett is keeping his fingers crossed that come Tuesday (5/19), his “Til Death” sitcom will be placed in a timeslot it can live with. “May 19 at the upfronts, we’ll know exactly where we wind up,” notes the star, whose marriage-minded comedy with Joely Fisher has managed to hang on despite multiple timeslot switches, a complete disappearance last fall and the fact that, as he candidly notes, “We’ve been ratings-challenged from the beginning.”
With encore episodes from Season 3 now set to begin airing come July 5, “we go into production for Season 4 at the end of July for new episodes that will start airing in September. We’re lucky to have a new season,” acknowledges Brad. “A lot of the people who were behind our show at Fox have moved on or disappeared, but our studio, Sony, has been campaigning hard for us, thankfully.”

Brad Garrett organized a bevy of the brightest comedy talents for the Dream Foundation and Maximum Hope’s All-In For All Good Celebrity Poker Tournament. Garrett, Ray Romano, Jason Alexander, Kevin Nealon and many others brought humor and heart to the tables.
Every little detail of the event was perfect—right down to the playing decks. “The king has Ray Romano’s face, and the queen has mine. That’s what happens when your ex-wife orders the cards,” joked Brad Garrett as he walked into the Commerce Casino ballroom. Garrett stood at the epicenter of everything, bringing together a whole slew of funny people and two crucially important charities at this Los Angeles arena casino.
I am a heavy supporter of the Dream Foundation. My mom and stepdad are on the board. The Dream Foundation grants wishes to terminally ill adults. Every six months I do huge Ebay auctions through Auction Cause, where I give a portion of the proceeds to the Dream Foundation.
I also work closely with Russell Simmons and help him in his Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation. A while ago I hosted his big charity event in Miami and we are planning a trip to Africa soon!
