Woman with cancer receives trip to see Alan Jackson concert

Ruth McCourt is going country this weekend.

The 81-year-old Morgantown woman is boarding an airplane, for her first-ever plane ride, to see Alan Jackson (her first-ever concert) perform live in Nebraska this weekend.

The tickets and airfare come courtesy of Dream Foundation, a group based in Santa Barbara, Calif., which grants wishes for terminally ill adults. McCourt, who has fought cancer off and on for 33 of her 81 years, is in the twilight of her battle.

Dream Foundation found out about McCourt after being contacted by the Morgantown offices of the Amedisys Foundation, another national group that has been providing her hospice care here.

McCourt smiled when a visitor to her Morgantown home asked if she was going to sing and dance during the show.

“You’re just gonna have to wait until the video comes out.”
