‘Dream’ comes through for family
The Lankton family of Winfield received another gift from the community Friday afternoon.
Rachel, Jeremy, Lucy and Rory were visited by Lonnie Silbur, a representative of the Dream Foundation, the only national dream-granting organization for terminally ill adults and their families.
Silbur presented the Lanktons with a check to help with their trip to Disney World.
Rachel Lankton, who taught at Arkansas City Middle School, learned she had a brain tumor in the fall. It was operated on Dec. 14 at KU Medical Center in Kansas City. Since then, she has also undergone chemotherapy and radiation.
Kim Mercer, a social worker in the Winfield school system, found out about the Dream Foundation and had the Lanktons fill out the application.
