Trezevant, Tennessee Terminally-Ill Young Man to Meet Favorite Poker Player

Press Release | January 23, 2019

Dream Foundation will celebrate Zachary Butler’s life with a Special Meet & Greet with his favorite poker player.

Zachary Butler, a 33-year-old from Trezevant, TN., has been diagnosed with Friedreich’s Ataxia. He began experiencing symptoms from the rare disease at an early age and became completely disabled by his late teens. Doctors have now given him a six-month life expectancy.

Throughout his life, Zachary has found enjoyment in the little things, including a game of cards. He spends much of his time playing online and in tournaments and dreams of meeting and playing cards with his favorite poker player, Daniel Negreanu. “He would give up his life to sit at a poker table with that man,” says Zachary’s mother, Cindy.

Later this month, Dream Foundation and their longtime corporate partner, Southwest Airlines, will fly Zachary, his mother, and his caretaker, Barbara to Las Vegas, Nev. where Mr. Negreanu will open his home to them all for an afternoon of card playing and laughter. Dream Foundation has also arranged accommodations for Zachary and his family while in Las Vegas.

Chuk Lamberth from Genentech, one of Dream Foundation’s Mission Partners will serve as “Dream Host” at an intimate gathering on January 23, 2019, delivering everything that Zachary needs for his longed-for Dream trip before he sets off.
