A Dream Come True : Revamped garden fulfills local man’s final wish

For more than 40 years, Dick Tidd and his wife, Sara, maintained a vegetable garden behind their home in Hope Ranch Annex. To those who knew him well, the garden was Mr. Tidd’s pride and joy.

Mrs. Tidd recalled the garden as the source of many dinners the couple enjoyed together.

“We would have nights where we’d pick corn and with butter dripping off our hands and faces, we’d have corn and french bread for dinner,” Mrs. Tidd said.

Dying Macon Woman Gets Wish Granted–A Trip to Olive Garden

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Macon woman dying of COPD had one request at the end of her life…a wish some people might call miniscule.

Deborah Monroe has less than 6 months to live, and instead of going abroad or to Disney…she decided she wanted to eat at Olive Garden. She’d seen the commercials but couldn’t ever afford it.

Tuesday, her friends made that dream come true, and made her queen for a day.

It was a collaboration between the Dream Foundation, a national wish-granting organization for adults and their families suffering from life-threatening illnesses, and Evercare Hospice and Palliative Care.

The endless salad and breadsticks were on the way, but the margarita arrived first. Deborah Monroe had dreamed about it. Now here she was, about to take a sip.

She licked her lips twice, squeezed a lemon and moved in.

She was parked at the table in her wheelchair, her chin even with the glass’s rim.

She recalled the last time she’d had a margarita. She’d been alone at a Mexican restaurant. It was her 55th birthday.

But Tuesday evening she was among friends, dining with social workers and caregivers who’ve looked after her for years.
