From Us to You

The onset of COVID-19 brings many changes in 2020, but 2019 was a very special year. It marked our 25th anniversary and saw us passing the milestone of having served over 32,000 Dreams and counting!

You, our community of corporate partners, health care providers, supporters and volunteers, continued to play a vital role in making every Dream come true throughout 2019. You all deserve special thanks.

Over 66 percent or around two out of three Dreams involved travel of some kind, and, as in previous years, our airline partners, Southwest Airlines and Alaska Airlines, made many of these possible in 2019.

Other corporate partners, such as biotechnology company Genentech, continued to offer generous financial support. We were also thrilled when pharmaceutical company Kyowa Kirin, Inc. and human health care company Eisai Inc. doubled their support, with Eisai focusing on our Dreams for Veterans Program.

We were excited to announce two new corporate partners; peer-to-peer car-sharing company Turo, who offered additional help with transportation, and roofing and waterproofing manufacturer, GAF, who helped us with funds for Dreams.

Along with this, our in-kind partners, who provide everything from accommodations to meals to tickets to special events, continued to make many Dreams magical.

Our Dream hosts, who volunteer to present recipients with everything that we provide for their Dream, made every delivery they made truly special.

Although anyone eligible can apply for a Dream, health care providers, particularly palliative care specialists and social workers, often make referrals to us, helping people with their applications and ensuring that those Dreams run smoothly. We loved working with you.

It was even a milestone year for events. You made our 2019 Endless Summer Dream a spectacular affair that was also the most successful to date. The event featured fashion partner Oscar de la Renta and ended with former board member J. Paul Gignac and his colleague Robert Curtis presenting a major gift. Thanks also go to our New York Advisory Council as members continued to run successful New York-based fundraising events, raise awareness and provide vital funds.

You also made our 2019 Flower Empower Luncheon more successful than any previously held, raising a record-breaking amount for this beloved volunteer-driven program that delivers comfort and cheer to anyone who needs it from Ventura to Goleta.

Thank you to all of our supporters. Your gifts, including airline miles, made so many Dreams come true.

Our thanks also go to the brilliant and talented people at healthcare marketing agency Harrison and Star for the ground-breaking ads you created for us.

Beyond the many milestones of 2019, you have all touched the lives of innumerable Dream recipients and their families. A note that we received from Christy speaks to the legacy that Dreams leave.

Some years previously, Christy’s mother, Donna, had dreamed of a beach vacation with her husband Robert and their children, including Christy. Thanks to your support, we were able to make Donna’s Dream come true.

Both Donna and Robert have since died. And in late 2019, we received a note from Christy that said, “I want to thank you for the trip you gave me and my family…We didn’t realize then…that was the last time we would all be together. Thank you for those memories!”.

Thank you for the legacy you create with every Dream.

Warmest regards,
