Woman set to meet Alan Jackson at Nebraskaland Days passes away

In the News | June 23, 2017

Ruth McCourt, an 81-year-old woman from West Virgina, passed away Thursday night, after battling cancer for more than 30 years.

Ruth has always been a huge fan of country superstar Alan Jackson.

Earlier this week, Ruth’s wish was granted through a combined effort from Amedisys Hospice, the Dream Foundation and MonHealth.

She had plans to travel to North Platte from West Virginia, and experience a meet and greet with Alan Jackson prior to his show at the Nebraskaland Days Wild West Arena Friday night, June 23.

The decision was made a few days prior to the meet and greet that Ruth was too sick to travel.

One of her caregivers spoke to NBC Nebraska, and said Ruth’s daughter Brenda was playing Alan Jackson’s songs for her, and she would open her eyes to his music.

Ruth passed away Thursday evening.
