A bittersweet Monday afternoon brought tears to the eyes of a woman who watched her mom’s dream come true today.

For Ruth McCourt, she has battled cancer for more than 30 years. For the 81-year-old woman, her big wish has always been to get a hug from country star, Alan Jackson.

“This is her third battle with it being active,” her daughter, Brenda said.

It has been a roller-coaster ride, but a three-decade long dream is finally coming true.

“Oh I love that boy,” Ruth said. “That’s my other son. That’s my other son, I love him.”

There’s only one woman who can tell you how much this means.

“You wouldn’t realize how much this means to me,” Ruth said.

There are good days, and there are bad days. Through the sickness that comes with cancer treatment, there is a dream coming true that can help make the day a bit brighter.

“She got me through it,” Brenda said. “Even though it was her journey and her battle, she made it easier for me because she’s so strong.”

For so many years, she’s been waiting for that hug. Come this weekend, that forever wish will become a reality.
