Beacon Hospice patient granted wish for private whale watch

Dreamer Stories | In the News | July 30, 2017

What began as a dreary rainy day on July 11, 2017, closed in beauty as rays of sunshine lit up the sky as hospice patient John Greene, his wife, Joann, and their closest family and friends gathered at Rye Harbor before embarking on a special whale watching excursion thanks to John’s Beacon Hospice team, Granite State Whale Watch, Joe’s Meat Shoppe and the support of the Dream Foundation.

The ambience was picture perfect with beautiful sunset ocean views at the harbor, smiles on John and Joann’s faces as surprise visitors arrived to see them off, including John’s former nurses from the Portsmouth Hospital Infusion Center, his primary care provider Dr. Wilhelmena Cabalona and Beacon Hospice team members with all attending treated to a seafarer’s delight of fish chowder and sandwich platters thanks to Joe’s Meat Shoppe in North Hampton.

The Dream Foundation, an organization serving terminally-ill adults and their families by providing end-of-life dreams that offer inspiration, comfort and closure, has worked closely with Amedisys hospices across the country. Beacon Hospice, an Amedisys company in Portsmouth, had the perfect dream to be granted and jumped on the chance to get a meaningful dream fulfilled.
