A DREAM COME TRUE

Dreamer Stories | In the News | August 17, 2018

At the end of one’s life, people yearn for comfort, closure, and fulfillment. Dream Foundation, which grants wishes to terminally ill people, provides just that. Recently, a local woman, Suzanne, was miraculously granted her dream.

The 77-year-old Suzanne was diagnosed with Corticobasal Degeneration, a terminal neurological disorder, and has a life expectancy of just three months. Despite the devastating news, she has never let her illness deter her positivity. When speaking of the rarity of her disease, she smiles and jokes, “I like to be unique.”

Suzanne’s compassionate character is evident in her dream. Inspired by her 30 year career in childcare, she wished to visit MOXI, The Wolf Museum of Exploration + Innovation and the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History to learn and laugh with children.

Suzanne was treated to a luxury meal at the Hotel Californian alongside her Dream Coordinator, Alex Braun, Dream Foundation’s Director of Development, Anais Pellegrini, and her sister, Jeanne. Later, they enjoyed an exclusive tour of the MOXI Museum. The following she’ll complete her dream at the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History.

Although Suzanne could’ve wished for any materialistic item or extravagant vacation, she chose to spend her day supporting children’s passion for learning. Suzanne’s admirable compassion and kindness is an inspiration to continue to laugh, learn, and give even during trying times.
