A Bayonne man diagnosed with ALS has been granted his wish to take his family on an all-expenses paid trip to Disney World.
The nonprofits Dream Foundation and Memories of Love granted the wish to Alfonso Jackson Sr., 40, who is leaving on Oct. 6 for a six-day vacation to Disney World in Orlando, Fla., with three of his four children and wife, Deborah Jackson.
Mark and Elsie Houston met at the Midnight Rodeo, a country line-dancing club in San Antonio, and although they never danced that night, she couldn’t get him out of her mind.
“He’s been my cowboy ever since,” she laughs.
For nearly two years after that meeting, the couple went everywhere and did everything together, including a 2009 vacation to hike through the countryside around Lake Tahoe…which would end up being the only vacation the couple enjoyed together.
FOXWORTH, MS (WDAM) – Walking around the amusement parks at Disney World in Orlando won’t be easy for Robert Alan Turnage of Foxworth but it’s a memory he hopes will fill the hearts and minds of his three grandchildren forever.
Turnage said, “I can’t wait to get them down there to see it. I know they are going to love it!”
As friends and family of Wendy Phelps entered the room, they slipped on life preservers as a show of solidarity. They gathered at the Cancer Care Centers of South Texas recently to honor Phelps, who has had six recurrences of breast cancer since she was diagnosed in September 2000.
She arrived with her father, William Phelps, and older sister, Wanda Phelps. Several nurses lined up to hug Phelps, who has arrived for treatments for the past 11 years shouting, “All right, let’s get this show on the road!”
As a huge fan of Harry Potter, Cincotta was thrilled to learn her dream of visiting the Harry Potter-themed amusement park was granted by the Dream Foundation. She and her daughter, Tammy, were provided flights, accommodations and passes, and a travel bag of goodies to the Universal Orlando Resort and Walt Disney World theme parks.
Garden Court’s Resident Council, which includes all residents at Garden Court, unanimously voted to also provide Cincotta with $500 for meals and additional expenses. The funds from the Resident Council are gathered through resident-run fundraising efforts, such as bake sales and crafts sold at holiday fairs, and reserved to assist residents in a time of need. Funds are also donated to causes in the community.
