Hotel Renew To Host Dream Foundation Family

Santa Barbara, CA – Today, Dream Foundation – the first and largest national wish- granting organization for adults and their families suffering life-threatening illness – announces a special partnership with Hotel Renew, a boutique hotel on Waikiki Beach in Honolulu, HI.

Just in time to serve Jia Lian Yu’s dream for a paradise escape with her family (happening August 5 to August 10, 2011), Hotel Renew has pledged complimentary rooms to Dream Foundation so the organization can continue granting Hawaii dreams for those whose lives have been impacted by irreversible disease.

Inspiring the partnership, San Francisco resident, Jia Lian Yu, came to Dream Foundation last month with her final dream request. The 31-year old single mother of 8-year old, Ivan, and 5-year old, Ivy, was diagnosed with nasopharyngeal cancer that metastasized to her lungs. Upon her diagnosis, Yu’s husband left her to undergo chemotherapy and raise her children on her own. Yu’s doctors have given her a limited prognosis of 3 to 6 months.

Yu selected Hawaii as her dream destination so she could create joy-filled memories with her children to counteract the adversity her family has faced.

Says Yu’s hospice nurse, Gila Tint, “I once asked Jia Lian what she was most afraid of. She fears her children wouldn’t remember that their mother loved them. She wants to take them to a beautiful place where they can make memories and have happy recollections of a time they felt their mother’s love.”

Not only will Hotel Renew offer Yu a complimentary stay as part of her dream request, they have also organized private surf lessons for the children with Gone Surfing Hawaii and contracted Greg Rose from Waterlogged Video Productions to capture the special moments on a customized DVD. “We are so happy to be able to fulfill Jian’s dream and show her the true meaning of Aloha, for which Hawaii is known, during her stay with us,” says Pearl Louie, Hotel Manager.

Using donated airline miles, Dream Foundation will cover the airfare for the family and provide spending money while they are in Hawaii.

Of the nearly 2,000 annual dream requests served by Dream Foundation, approximately one-third involved travel – and dozens of those are specific to Hawaii. As such, Hotel Renew’s commitment to offer complimentary rooms to dream families will provide more resources to the organization, which relies heavily on in kind donations to accomplish its mission.

“With in-kind partners like Hotel Renew, Dream Foundation can serve more families in need,” says Dream Foundation Founder and President, Thomas Rollerson. “Our role is one of a clearing house of sorts, collecting and redistributing resources to allow families joy, comfort, and reprieve during an end-of-life journey. We are so grateful to companies like Hotel Renew who incorporate compassion as a part of their business model.”
